About
Mike Facey — Painter & Illustrator
I make paintings about people.
My work is figurative at its core — portraits, characters, faces that carry history. Trained at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, I've spent years developing a practice that moves between fine art and illustration, between the studio and the page.
My subjects have ranged from blues legends like Muddy Waters and Charles Mingus to political figures, everyday people, and communities that don't often see themselves rendered with care. I believe portraiture is one of the most intimate and political acts a painter can commit to.
I work primarily in oil, acrylic, and graphite and take on a limited number of commissions each year for private collectors, families, organizations, and editorial clients.
